It’s that time of year! We’re coming out of the long winter months of dark afternoons filled with downpours. It’s been a very wet winter here in California and I can’t wait for the clouds to part for good; I’m full of hope for sunshiny days filled with warm adventures!
It’s always important to take care of your jewelry, and in the spring months it’s extra important.
Water:
Rain, rain, rain! It’s not over yet but the end is in sight. I always recommend keeping your jewelry out of water whenever possible. But don’t worry too much about it, the most important thing is that you always dry your jewelry before putting it away. Never put your jewelry in your jewelry box or a sealed bag without completely drying it first.
Spring Cleaning:
Coming out of winter hibernation our instincts call for a culling of our home and belongings. Talk about spring cleaning to the max! Just make sure you have your precious gems put away in a safe jewelry box or sealed bag before boogying down on your crib. Cleaning products can cause damage to your jewels and no one wants that!
Cleaning Jewels:
Constant contact with moisture and your skins natural oils will eventually cause your gold filled jewelry to develop a dirt build up or slight tarnish, but don’t fret you can easily clean your jewels with these simple steps below.
Supplies you’ll want:
Bowl, warm water, mild soap, a cloth.
1. Fill up your bowl with warm water and mild soap submerge the metal parts (avoid putting stones into the water) of your jewelry and let sit for 1 minute.
2. Take your jewelry out of it’s little bath, take your cloth get it wet with the soapy water and gently rub the metal until you see the dirt and tarnish rubbing away. Repeat step 1+2 as many times as needed.
3. Take a dry cloth and gently pat your jewelry dry.
4. Let your jewelry sit out to dry overnight.
5. Store in a jewelry box or sealed bag for best results.
Proper Storage: If you want your jewelry to last without any discoloration, proper storage helps a lot. It’s best to store your jewelry away in a jewelry box or sealed bag when not wearing them. An added bonus is storing your jewels with an anti tarnish strip in a secured box or bag. The strips absorb sulfides and other pollutants in the air. The more air tight the storage container the better they work, so a sealed bag is really the most effective bet when using these babies. You can buy your own here.
I adore all the new blooms that the warmer weather + spring showers bring. I can’t help but walk around with a smile on my face, what can I say I love flowers! What are your favorite things about spring? Comment below to share.
